About Abinotci - Mino Ayawin

This program offers voluntary home visiting by the Aboriginal Health & Wellness Centre that supports Indigenous families and caregivers in Winnipeg who are expecting a child or have children up to six years old living in the home.

The program’s long-term focus is improving the health and wellbeing of young children and their families through culturally grounded support and early intervention. It serves families facing challenges such as poverty, social isolation, substance use, family violence, housing instability, and other factors that may affect child development.

Services include home visits, one-on-one counselling and support, advocacy, access to traditional resources, referrals to Indigenous organizations, assistance with child custody, safety, income, housing and family planning concerns, and support in setting and achieving family goals. Intake is available year-round for eligible Indigenous families living in Winnipeg.

You can access support from our program for up to approximately 3 years

Criteria to Access

You are pregnant or have children between the ages of 0 - 6 living with you
You self-identify as Indigenous
You live in Winnipeg
You are willing to participate by committing to a minimum of two home or office visits per month with your Community Wellness Worker

Programs and Services

This program supports urban Indigenous individuals experiencing homelessness and multiple barriers by helping them secure permanent, appropriate housing in the community while providing individualized, portable supports and empowering services that promote independence and long-term self-sufficiency.
